Join the Real Opposition

This public meeting promotes real opposition to austerity, bank bailouts, and unemployment – all are policies of the mainstream political parties – and says there is an alternative. 5 United Left Alliance (ULA) TD’s won Dáil seats in the recent general election – this meeting is part of a ULA recruitment drive.

Across the country we see cutbacks in bus services, housing projects, community schemes – a timely reminder that the new Fine Gael/Labour government is wedded to the interests of big business, just like its Fianna Fáil predecessor.

FG and Labour have broken their pre-election promise to amend the EU/IMF austerity deal. As opposition grows, an opportunity opens to build a radical mass party of the left, representing ordinary workers, the unemployed and the youth. We ask you to attend this meeting, and discuss the left alternative to the cutbacks, beginning to build a new party.

 ====================

The ULA has hosted a series of public meeting like this in the last few weeks – we hope for a report on this one.

In the meantime enjoy these :

Gene Kerrigan reminds us that ” in January 2006, this column argued in some detail that the then government, headed by Bertie Ahern, was the worst in the history of the State” – the Kenny/Gilmore government may force us to revise that definitive judgement :
